SHEFFIELD™ MDSS – (2101 Duplex) – Lean Duplex Stainless Plate

Sheffield MDSS offers a significant increase in service life and less downtime for your machines. This hybrid stainless steel plate exhibits equal parts Ferrite and Austenite. Sheffield MDSS provides greater resistance to (SCC) Stress Corrosion Cracking, (Sulfide and Chloride) in Sour Service environments, than 410 and 416. In addition, it also offers nearly 3 times the strength of type 316L stainless plate, and has a higher wear resistance.

Operating Temperatures 800°F
Consider Sheffield MDSS - Lean Duplex Stainless in applications where operating temperatures do not exceed 800°F. For applications where operating temp. are lower than 800°F, consider Sheffield MDSS to replace; 304L, 316L, 410, 416, and 17-4PH.

General Machining Data

Sheffield MDSS exhibits excellent machining characteristics when compared to type 304L or 316L stainless. Superior machinability to most Duplex grades.

Welding Tips

No pre-heat required. Cool between passes (below 300°F). Filler metal suggested but not required. Post weld anneal not required. If post-weld annealing is accomplished, follow with a rapid water quench to prohibit re-forming of the intermetallic phase.

When using GTAW or PAW, consider the adding of nitrogen in the shielding/purging gas to ensure optimum pitting resistance. Recommended Fillers: LDX2101 from Avesta Welding or 2209. – Request detailed welding data.
